Antique 19th century Sioux Beaded Native American Moccasins

About the Item

An outstanding pair of 19th century Native American fully beaded moccasins (European women’s shoe size 36 which is equal American women’s shoe size 6). The Moccasins are made out of animal hide (leather ) and decorated with glass beads of different colors of light and dark blue, red, coral and purple. Moccasins shall protect the foot while allowing the person who wears them to feel the ground. The ancients took care of their feet,- the oldest shoe ever discovered is a leather moccasin dating back 5,500 years in Armenia. A moccasin is a flexible shoe made from one to three pieces of leather and the origin of the word is known to us thanks to the French writer and traveller Marc Lescarbot, who sojourned in Acadia in 1606-1607, and said about the Algonquins: “…ours wear shoes, which they call Mekezin, which they make very ingeniously, but cannot last long, especially when worn in damp places since the leather is not dressed, nor hardened, elk leather worked as would be a buffalo hide.” This pair of Moccasins are in very good condition for its age and as shown on the last photo could be easily worn. A true original piece of Native American History.

Antique Frame French Book Journal Display/Painting 13th-19th Century
Located in Doha, QA
This rare and remarkable piece begins with a backdrop composed of beautifully, handwritten love letters from the 1800s. There are three scrolls made up of additional love letters, sealed with red wax from the 19th century scattered around two antique books. The open book on the left, was written during the time of the 30 Year War, 1618-1648 in France, when the Treaty of Westphalia changed the map of Europe. During this period, the church attempted to begin marriage registrations and within this written relic, there are numerous marriage entries with names and dates. The book is bound by animal hide from the 12th-13th century and when it is unfolded, it becomes a giant piece of parchment filled with faded ink handwriting in mysterious Old French. The closed book on the right is from Louis XIII - XVI era and is bound in antique animal hide parchment from the 12th-13th century. When the animal hide is unfurled, the inside is adorned in faded handwritten ink in peculiar Old French. Inside the journal is elegante handwriting in ink but it is difficult to identify the cryptic content. This journal was possibly written by an unknown noble figure or bishop. Settled below the journals, is an antique, intricate silver feather ink...

Antique Native American Painting Sitting Bull ( 1831-1890) by A.Champollion
By Champollion
Located in Doha, QA
Andre Champollion, the grandson of J.F. Champollion, who deciphered the Rosetta Stone, was born in Paris, France September 20, 1880. He attended and graduated from Harvard University in 1902 and lived in New York City. He was called to enlist in the French army during World War I and was killed in action on March 23, 1914. After Andre graduated from Harvard, he spent the following year traveling the globe. Most of his work was influenced by the places he traveled to, the people he met, and the cultures he experienced. Most of his collection was donated to Harvard University by Andre’s wife, Adelaide Bramwell in 1931. This collection of sketches, drawings, paintings, notebooks, and photographs currently resides at the Peabody Museum. Andre Champollion’s painting of Sitting Bull is one of his greatest masterpieces. Sitting Bull is an iconic Native American figure known throughout the world for his resistance against the United States Army and uniting the Sioux tribes. His first battle against the US army was in 1863, and again in 1864, each interaction convinced Sitting Bull to never sign a treaty that would force his people onto a reservation. Unfortunately, his chief signed a treaty for the Great Sioux Reservation in 1868. In 1874, gold was discovered within the borders of their reservation. The US government redrew the reservation lines to force the Native Americans to move 240 miles in the middle of winter. Sitting Bull refused and with the help of the Arapaho, Cheyenne and Sioux tribes, they faced off against General George Crook on June 17, 1876, winning the battle. Sitting Bull’s most famous battle victory was June 25, 1876, against General George Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Three thousand Native Americans against six hundred military men. However, in May 1877, Sitting Bull moved his people to Canada to escape the US government and starvation due to the decreasing buffalo population that his tribe relied on. Despite the move, resources became scarce and Sitting Bull surrendered to the US Army on July 20, 1881 in exchange for pardons for his people. He was a prisoner of war at Fort Randall in South Dakota for two years until he was moved to Standing Rock Reservation. The Ghost Dance...
