Picasso Und Seine Zeit Die by Sammlung Berggruen, 1st Ed

About the Item

Picasso Und Seine Zeit: Die by Sammlung Berggruen. Published by Berlin: Ars Nicolai, 1996. 1st Ed softcover. The catalog from The Museum Berggruen which owes its name and genesis to the art dealer and collector Heinz Berggruen (1914-2007). Over a period of more than forty years, he assembled a suite of masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, and Alberto Giacometti. The Berggruen Collection was first unveiled in 1996 in a permanent exhibition that went on show in the western Stülerbau entitled 'Picasso and His Time'. In 2000 the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz acquired the collection on behalf of the Nationalgalerie, of which the museum is part. Today the Museum Berggruen's collection, which has grown in number thanks to additional significant loans from the Berggruen family, has become one of the most important public collections of Modern Art concentrating on works from the high-modern period. With more than 120 works by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), the Museum Berggruen provides a sweeping overview of Picasso's career and development as an artist. On display are several key works, such as his famous picture of the seated harlequin from his Rose Period, an impressive detail study for Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, as well as numerous portraits of Dora Maar. The collection also focuses on the work of Paul Klee (1879-1940). Henri Matisse (1869-1954) and Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) also represented, particularly with works from their later periods. In addition, the museum presents selected works by Georges Braque, Henri Laurens, and Paul Cézanne. German text.

Picasso & Marie-Therese, L'Amour Fou by Richardso & Diana Widmaier, 1st Ed
Located in valatie, NY
Picasso and Marie-Therese, L'amour Fou by John Richardso, Picasso and Diana Widmaier. Published by Gagosian Gallery, New York, 2011. 1st Ed exhibition(4/14-6/25/2011) hardcover catalog with dust jacket. Picasso and Marie-Thérèse: L’amour fou brings together the paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints inspired by one of Picasso’s most ideal models and enduring passions. The exhibition is curated by the eminent Picasso biographer, John Richardson, together with Marie-Thérèse’s granddaughter, art historian Diana Widmaier Picasso, who is currently preparing a catalogue raisonné of Picasso’s sculptures. In 1927, on a street in Paris, Picasso encountered the unassuming girl, just shy of eighteen years old, who would become his lover and one of modern art’s most famous muses. “I am Picasso,” he announced. The name meant nothing to Marie-Thérèse so he took her to a bookshop to show her a monograph of his paintings and asked if he could see her again. Flattered and curious, she agreed, and thus began a secret love affair that would establish Marie-Thérèse as the primary inspiration for Picasso’s most daring aesthetic experiments in the decade to come. The Sketchbooks of Picasso "Je Suis Le Cahier" Hardcover Book 1st Ed. 1986
By (after) Pablo Picasso
Located in North Hollywood, CA
"Je Suis Le Cahier" The Sketchbooks of Picasso hardcover book 1st Edition 1986 The Sketchbooks of Picasso "Je Suis Le Cahier". Pablo Picasso, "Picasso considered all of his works to be entries in his diary; he excluded nothing. The sketchbooks are generic chapters inextricable from his oeuvre. In Picasso's paintings the spontaneity of gesture is deceptive since the manner is which he leaves his tracks visible superficially suggests minimal preparation. Although most of Picasso's solutions appear to be immediately worked out on the canvas, this was far from the fact. Many paintings sprang fully formed as the fulfillment of preconscious models, but very often others were the product of the process of trial solution and discovery through drawing. There are eight sketchbooks for Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, five for the saltimbanques, four for the Luncheon on the Grass series, and two for The rape of the Sabines. In sketchbook No. 171, Picasso inscribed...
