A Fine French 19th Century Empire Style Mahogany and Ormolu Mounted Crib Cradle

About the Item

A Very Fine French or Russian 19th Century Empire Style Mahogany, Ormolu Mounted and Parcel-Gildwood Carved Crib & Bedding. The egg-shaped oblong rocking cradle supported at each end by columnar standards. The cradle base conforms to the rocking cradle and is adorned with laurel wreath gild bronze corner crests, all supported on cabriole legs with finely cast gild bronze acanthus leaf mounts. Turned gilded bedding and drapery support having a cast gilt bronze terminal of an eagle holding a ring in its beak. It also includes mattresses, bedding, Irish hand embroidered linens and matching draperies. One pair of Irish linen draperies measures 25" X 124". One pair measures 20" (10" with curtain rod hooks) x 124". Some ormolu bear the letters "P.R."; "N.H"; ":E.J" and other mounts bear what appear to be a name in cyrillic. Circa: 1860-1870. (Maybe earlier). Another possibility is that this fantastic quality crib is actually an earlier piece, plausible by either Pierre-Antoine Bellangé (French, 1757–1827) or by Pierre-Benoît Marcion (French, 1769-1840), but not guaranteed. Provenance: The Collection of Linda Taubman, MI. originally purchased from Mallett at Bourdon House Ltd. London, England, on March 4, 1987. Height: 75 inches (190.5 cm) Length: 56 inches (142.3 cm) Width: 28 inches (71.1 cm) Images of other ornate Napoleonic and Imperial cribs/cradles can be found at these renown museums: The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has a similar Mahogany and Gilt-Bronze Mounted Empire Baby's Cradle, Circa 1810. Les Musée des Arts Décoratives in Paris has a very onrate crib-cradle from The Duke of Bordeaux, Paris. Located in Los Angeles, CA
A very fine French 19th-early 20th century Louis XV style mahogany, tulipwood, parquetry and ormolu mounted oval gueridon side table with a Brêche Violette marble top, attributed to François Linke (1855-1946). The inset oval Brêche Violette marble top with a gilt-bronze surround, above a lozenge parquetry frieze with foliate ormolu mounts, with a drawer to one side, on cabriole legs headed by clasps and joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher centered by a finial, on scroll sabots. Unsigned. Circa: Paris, 1900. François Linke (1855-1946) was one of the most celebrated ébénistes of his time. By 1900, his worldwide reputation as an individualistic master of high quality furniture was already established. However, with a huge display, placing his extravagant pieces in room settings and winning the Médaille d'Or for his Grand Bureau, Linke's participation in the Paris 1900 exhibition...
