French 1920s Giltwood Rectangular Mirror with Carved Faux-Bois Décor
About the Item
A French giltwood mirror from the early 20th century, with faux-bois carved frame and clear mirror plate. Created in France during the first quarter of the 20th century in the period called the Années Folles (the Roaring Twenties), this rectangular mirror features a carved giltwood frame adorned in the faux-bois manner. Particularly popular in France during the later years of the 19th century through the 1940s, the faux bois technique (translating as false wood) allowed artists to use various media to imitate wood. If you ever stroll through the romantic paths of the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in Paris, you will be able to appreciate early examples of this style. Our frame surrounds a clear mirror allowing great reflection.
