In this particular case, you are looking at a Dutch specimen from the early to mid 1800s. Both the angel sculptures and the many scrolling branch and leaf patterns are typical Renaissance elements. They are all incredibly well carved, in superb condition and over the many decades they have grown the most wonderful and warm patina. The pair of angels on top holding the wreath are giving this antique work of art its deeper meaning, because this scene represents the birth of Jesus Christ.
