Large French 19th Century LXVI Style Gilt Wood Trumeau Mirror

About the Item

This large Louis XVI style trumeau mirror, circa late 1800's from France, has generous proportions which make it a commanding presence. The fine, decorative carving,at the top section of the Trumeau, details symmetrically, intertwining leaves and flowers around the classical motif of an urn. The carvings are highlighted in a water gilt work, original to the piece, and still in tact, creating a beautiful lustre as it is in such good condition for its age. The frame's background is painted in a very old white which has deepened over time to become slightly warm green/grey in colour. The original mercury glass has also survived and is a little aged and mottled adding authentic depth and charm to this antique piece.
