A Fabulous Large 19th Century Giltwood Overmantel Mirror with Central Cartouche
About the Item
A fabulous 19th Century giltwood overmantel mirror of exceptional quality and large proportions. The shaped, mirror glass plate is set within a finely hand carved moulded, fluted and pierced giltwood frame with elegant sphere, flowerhead, hatch cross and beaded row detail throughout. Surmounted with a stunning and intricately detailed pierced centred crest composition comprising of cartouche with scallop shell, scrolls, ruffles, acanthus and sphere motifs flanked with bouquets of flowers and foliate, all exquisitely hand carved in high relief. The shaped platform base with a further gorgeous arrangement of richly scrolling foliate and flowerhead motifs to each side.
