RARE MCM ICON! MOSS FIBERGLASS REFLECTOR SHADE AND CONE TABLE LAMP! (APPROX. 17" TALL By 15" WIDE ) Here is the famous MOSS fiberglass lamp with a cone and reflector design. It is one of the most coveted MOSS lamps for its comparative restraint and timeless design! This reflector lamp is the epitome of modern illumination thought circa 1945-1955! Designers were experimenting with ways to create *indirect lighting* because studies illustrated this was better for the eyes. The MOMA Lighting Design competition of 1951 would almost exclusively showcase designs that were based on reflection technology. This beautiful lamp features a sweeping brushed brass neck and articulating fiberglass shade reflector. The black enameled cone is complemented by a matching black decorative trim on the base. It is in very fine vintage condition. It has light age-appropriate wear. It presents splendidly, This lamp creates a warm cozy space in any interior. Moss lamps were more about mood than function. Accordingly this is more of an accent lamp. Much like the Bobrick control lamps and certain other Heifetz reflector designs, this lamp is best in introducing ambient warm lighting into an area that is easy on the eyes. An inline switch turns the lamp on/off for utmost convenience. This lamp is nearly impossible to find now. Few have survived the full seventy years. This lamp is simply beautiful. It is an icon of a creative and imaginative era that will likely never come again. it is perhaps the finest surviving example in the world and a daily joy for the lucky collector. An incredible furnishing addition to your New York penthouse, Palm Springs atomic ranch or West Palm Beach estate!
