Imari-Style Table Lamps by Jaap Heinen (1980s) with New Pleated Shades, Pair

About the Item

Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam, this pair of one-of-a-kind table lamps is made from rare, hand-painted Imari-style vases by renowned Dutch ceramic artist Jaap Heinen. Created during the 1980s in Heinen’s Putten studio, these vases bear his distinct “JH” signature, alongside the fish symbol and “Putten” marking, confirming their authenticity. At this time, Heinen’s work was heavily influenced by traditional Japanese Imari porcelain, skillfully merging it with the Dutch Delft heritage, resulting in pieces that are seldom found on the market today. We’ve paired these historic vases with custom ivory pleated lampshades featuring navy blue trim. The pleated design adds a modern elegance to the bold, intricate patterns of the Imari-style vases, creating a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics. The rich red, blue, and gold tones, inspired by 17th-century Japanese porcelain, beautifully contrast with the soft texture of the lampshades, making these lamps a striking addition to any interior. Imari porcelain became highly prized in Europe after Dutch traders began importing it in the late 1600s. Known for its luxurious color palette and detailed gold accents, this porcelain required a labor-intensive two-stage firing process, especially for the 24-karat gold embellishments. Heinen’s early works reflect this tradition, blending it with his personal artistic flair, making these lamps a rare find for collectors and connoisseurs of both Dutch and Japanese art. The lamps were created without harming the original vases in any way.
