In 1880, Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer merged with another German company and took the name of Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, then WMF acquired the Polish metalworks Plewkiewicz of Warsaw in 1886, which became a subsidiary of WMF around 1900. In 1900, WMF acquired Albert Köhler, a famous Austrian ironwork company.
