Unique and great design, antique bronze oil lamp with angel sculptures, by one of Europe's finest.
There is a reason why the late 19th and the early 20th century have produced some of the best furniture makers, lamp designers, sculptors, wood carvers, blacksmiths etc. For many centuries the various techniques and skills needed for these professions had been passed on to next generations via families and via schooling. So all the talents that humans have in them, in those days, would have been cultivated / developed to the maximum, resulting in unique designs and amazing quality executions of those designs. It was also then (especially around WW2) that this continuous development of skills got terminated, because the wars AND the industrialization / mass production that followed them, ended most of the (need for) artisanship. This late 19th century and also top quality made, gilt bronze oil lamp by H. Luppens of Brussels is a 'living example' of the amazing level of workmanship of that 'last generation'. Even in those days the master craftsman working with 'H. Luppens and Company' were among the best in the business. It is for that reason too that this incredibly rich antique floor lamp / oil lamp radiates nothing but class, quality, style and beauty. As with most top quality made and truly beautiful antiques, this stately oil lamp too has a serene presence that will never fail to impress.
