18th Century Italian Carved Giltwood Church Torchère Converted to Floor Lamp

About the Item

Tall giltwood church torchère with deep foliate carvings, Italy late 18th century. This piece is finely hand carved in precise detail with deep foliate carvings decorated with acanthus leaves, all on a large, elegant base with carved rosettes supported by three feet. The torchère has been converted to electric floor lamp but it can be easily return to its original function as candleholder. Silk shade included. The overall carving is in fine original condition, all original gilt throughout with great aged patina, some small gwood and gilding losses. One small reparation professionally glued - please see last image. Measures: Height with shade 63" / 160 cm Diameter with shade 14.25" / 36 cm Height without shade: 55" / 140 cm Height of the torchére (wooden part only): 43.50" / 110 cm Diameter (base) 11.50" / 29 cm. One brass Edison E27 screw bulb socket for a large sized bulb.
