Monumental and Rare Chandelier by Yasha Heifetz

About the Item

An exceptionally rare pendant chandelier by Yasha Heifetz, 1950s. Rare in form and in scale at 42" wide and 48" deep as shown (although fully adjustable in drop.) The largest saucer is just over 28" in diameter, followed by a 24" and 19" lamp. The unique style of having the tops colored and the lower level all off-white allows this lamp to cast a unique glow. These are exceedingly rare in any size but particularly the largest element at 28" and will not be found elsewhere. It captures the atomic age perfectly. The shape is particularly delicate when not hung so very few survived. The ceiling plate is 20" in diameter and newly wired although original porcelain sockets encased in plastic sockets remain. Fine brass details to the top of each with heat escape holes that also impart a perforated visual effect. Ideal for a Modernist home not unlike an Eichler or for a showroom display that will draw attention. Orange, Brown and Teal colors. In very good condition with only a few marks to the shades. A wood crate will rebuilt to transport the lamp to its final destination.

Ten-Tier Cascading Chandelier by Tapio Wirkkala for Oy Airam AB, Finland
By Tapio Wirkkala
Located in South Charleston, WV
A rare and monumental ten-tier pendant cascading chandelier by Finnish master designer Tapio Wirkkala, produced by Oy Airam AB of Finland with cased opaline glass shades. Some designs have the bulb he designed for Airam forming the diamond shape whereas in this example the opaline diamond shapes are glass shades and particularly uncommon. Measures: 60" tall (though can be extended to much longer lengths), 19" wide. Each pendant is 13.5" long and 5" wide and takes a 25 watt bulb. The ceiling mounting plate is 15" wide. Cords are slightly warped only in the photo from having been packed and will settle out to be straight after a few days after being hung. See the 4th photo as the lamp was prior to removal. Produced sometime between 1960 and mid-1970s and with ten pendants, it is one of the largest examples to be found anywhere and a very fine example of vintage modernist lighting...
