Incredible Sevres Porcelain and Bronze Chandelier, French 19th Century

About the Item

This 19th century French chandelier is an immaculate example of Sevres Porcelain in lighting. Sevres, both a city in France and one of the most highly regarded porcelain manufacturers is known for just that, creating immaculate porcelain. The stamp of Sevres is marked by two intercrossing L’s, occasionally with a letter to note either the painter or date. The piece is densely adorned with delicate brushstrokes. Scenes of a couple planting a tree, a gentleman playing music for a woman, and a picnic outing interlace the porcelain with the floral motif. It’s incredibly fine artistry is exemplified in every part of the piece. The bronze sports a magnificent acanthus leaf motif and the chandelier has an impressive 24 lights. Each piece in our shop is professionally rewired and in working order. Each chandelier comes with a vintage canopy, three feet of chain, and ample wire, and is newly wired with UL approved wire and sockets and is fully operable. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
