About the Item

Inspired by the sinuosity of nature, Art Nouveau was a style of decorative arts between roughly 1890 and 1910. Our French Art Nouveau wrought iron chandelier, which is from circa 1900, has an unusual form with the two tiers of foliate rings. The chandelier has a total of eight light sockets enveloped by leaf cups and spread throughout the foliage, providing a large sphere of illumination. There are three short C-scroll arms affixed to the bottom foliate ring, each with two sockets. A seventh light source hangs beneath the ring, affixed by three chains to rings located behind the C-scrolls. The final light source is positioned above the smaller, upper ring of leaves, suspended from the large foliate canopy supported by three curvaceous arms. Three statuesque leaf stalks rise behind the C-scroll arms, adding to the sprawling network of leaves that intersperse their way throughout piercings on the lower tier. Support chains loop around the tips of the stalks, running to leaf-like hooks beneath the upper ring, which is a wreath of laurel branches in clusters of three. The undulating upper tier is also adorned with lobes and barbed protuberances. Our Art Nouveau chandelier has high quality iron work with a lovely patina, making it a fantastic light source for any room in need of decorative illumination.
