Ø max 35cm ~ ~ Height: 45cm ~ Maximal Height including the chain and its canopy lamp: 120cm (which can be adjusted at your desideratum) Weight: 6Kg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ History of the famous Pottery School in Landshut / Lower Bavaria (that's where we live - the artist was a friend of my parents) 1836 Opening of the Agricultural and Commercial School in the current government building of Lower Bavaria. 1870 First idea for a pottery school by the mayor Dr. Gehring, the headmaster of the trade school Sperl and the master potter F. Reither. 1873 Opening of the 'Royal Pottery School' with the support of President v. Lipowsky. Students: two journeymen, later three more journeymen and two apprentices. Teachers: Practice - Franz Reither Theory - Friedrich Schenk Finances - Adolf Böhm. Joined later: Anton Weinzierl A prerequisite for admission to the school was a previous apprenticeship. The students lived in a boarding house. The lights had to be turned off at 9 p.m. and journeymen had to stay out until 10 p.m. Visiting pubs was frowned upon, as it was apparently incompatible with the decent, moral behaviour expected of the students. The consciousness of belonging to the pottery school must elevate the young craftsman, increase his sense of honour and express itself in all his actions. (Quote from: 'Die Staatliche Keramikschule zu Landshut' by Gertrud Benker) Working hours were from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm with a two-hour break. Mainly kilns were produced. All goods were sold. The pupils received a daily wage of 69 Pfennig. The vocational school in the government building was used for theory lessons and the former Graf factory in Bauhofstraße for practical lessons. 1903 Change of name: 'Keramische Fachschule Landshut' (additional title: Fachschule für Kunsttöpferei und Ofenbau) Move to a new building: (Ober-) Realschule am Marienplatz (today FOS). The school consisted of two years of pre-school, two years of vocational school and one year of further training for journeymen. Teachers: Wilhelm Rudolph (Reallehrer) and seven specialist teachers. School fees were 20 marks a year for Germans and 40 marks for foreigners. 30.1.1912 The prep school examination is equated with the journeyman's examination and the technical school examination with the master's examination. 1924 Move to the preparatory school at Marienplatz (now KFL). 1930-1973 Opportunity to train as a bricklayer.

turquoise lava glazed RUSCHA FLOOR VASE 60s 70s hand-thrown marked G.- 863-40

beautiful FLOOR VASE attributed to / most probably by RUSCHA KERAMIK RUSCHA KERAMIK was launched in 1948 when Rudolf Schardt assumed the management of Klein & Schardt, his father Georg's ceramics factory in the town of Rheinbach, located near Bonn in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. (RUSCHA is a syllabic abbreviation of his name.) The timing of the re-founding ensured that the company was in a good position to benefit from Germany's post-war growth boom. RUSCHA KERAMIK became a leading manufacturer during the "golden age" of Western German ceramics and is credited with some of the era's key developments. It produced some very successful and innovative forms and glazes, including the 'Vulcano' décor (Otto Gerharz, 1951)—which heralded the move towards thick, dripping fat-lava glazes—and the iconic no. 313 (Kurt Tschörner, 1954), probably the period's most famous shape. Hans Welling, Adele Bolz, Heinz Siery, and Cilli Wörsdörfer were among other notable designers to work for RUSCHA. RUSCHA KERAMIK was celebrated for exquisite wall plates, plaques, and tiles—manufactured for both indoor and outdoor applications—as well as its high-quality vases. Specimens from the 1970s will frequently exhibit remarkable lava and volcanic glazes. When RUSCHA closed its factory in 1996, Scheurich acquired many of its designs and molds; distinctive silver RUSCHA labels were sometimes applied to the subsequent production. Notes on identification: White clay was used practically exclusively. The rare examples made with red-brown clay are thought to date from periods when normal supply sources ran out. Embossed and incised base-numbering was used for vessels. If a vase was made in more than one size, a single digit indicating relative size followed the form number. Low form numbers (< 100) were sometimes preceded by a letter. Like a few other manufacturers, RUSCHA KERAMIK occasionally recycled form numbers, a cause of distress for some collectors. Pieces were never molded with "Germany" or "West Germany." The construction of Landshut began in 1204 under the rule of Duke Ludwig of Bavaria. It was a typical Wittelsbach founding town and marked a new form of territorial politics for the Bavarian dukes. From 1231, Landshut became the residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty and the capital of the Duchy of Bavaria until 1255. Due to the division of Bavarian lands, Landshut alternated between being a capital and a residential town. The town thrived thanks to its location on the Isar River and its strategic positioning along trade routes. By the 14th century, Landshut had developed its Gothic town center, which remained largely unchanged until the 19th century. During the period from 1392 to 1503, Landshut experienced a prosperous and politically important era under the rule of the three "rich" Dukes Heinrich, Ludwig, and Georg. Landshut also gained prestige through the magnificent wedding of Duke George the Rich to the daughter of the Polish king...
