1960s Brass Birdcage Pendant

About the Item

Unusual 1960's vintage pendant in the form of a vertical oblong brass framed balloon or birdcage fitted with three lights inside Italian white opaline LV glass cylinders each of which is 13-7/8 inches long (35.5cm) and 3.5 inches diameter with three drilled holes supported by 2" screw-in brass pins. The frame of the cage is constructed with spines of half-inch brass square tube bent like a long-bow and fitted to a brass hub on each end. The bottom hub has a finial knob which is the on-off switch. The top has a large brass eye-ring. This pendant (or lantern) was originally intended to be swagged so comes with ~12 feet of brass chain through which the cord is interwoven and is fitted with a "Royal" plug at the end. Of course this can be hard wired to your ceiling. Previously we had a version of this lamp that was fitted with tension pole mounts and I have seen a table lamp version. The brass has developed a rich bronze patina which we have chosen not to polish. Maker unknown but this is a very high quality piece, well constructed and all solid brass and Italian glass. Angelo Lelii had designed lamps of similar form around the same time period.
