Unique & All Handcrafted Antique Tramp Art Box w. Gothic Look and Feel ca. 1860

About the Item

Antique and larger than average tramp art box of great quality and design. If you are a collector of rare and unusual, antique folk art objects in general and/or an enthousiast of antique tramp art boxes in particular then this marvelous specimen will tickle your fancy. The larger than average and truly wonderful, Gothic-like design is a joy to look at, but the marvelous gilt brass and hand-painted ornaments really take this antique box from circa 1860 to the next level. It even comes with the original and working lock and key. However, and as so often is the case with boxes of this age, the lock-pin and the hole in which it has to go are just not lined-up perfectly anymore which makes using the lock difficult. One can drill the hole a little larger, but with such small locks we rather leave it as is (it is part of its charachter). Other great features are the gilt brass claws on its brass ball feet, the embroidered monogram ES (possibly for the loved one this was made for), the various brass nails in different shapes and sizes (on the lid), the embroidered lace-like lining on the edge of the inside of this box, the red velvet lining and finally the original and very good condition antique mirror inside the lid. Over the many decades both the inside and outside of this box have grown a unique patina which makes this particular tramp art box look even more ancient. If you like this rare antique box as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially when taking into account that our price includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 2 to 5 days. Maximum width x depth x height: 12 x 9.9 x 9.4 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
