Rare 19th Century Swedish Dala Horse in Original Polychrome Paint

About the Item

Rare hand-carved Dala horse in pine wood with original polychrome paint. Sweden, circa 1840. The tradition of carved wooden Dala horses dates back to the 16th century — the earliest known example is from 1560. Around 1830, the horses began to be decorated with colorful paint, and this piece originates from that very period. Beautiful, original condition.
