Antique Victorian Silver Plated Biscuit by Box Fenton Brothers 19thC
About the Item
This is a highly decorative antique Victorian silver plated folding biscuit box, the base bearing the makers' mark of the renowned silversmiths Fenton Brothers of Sheffield, England, circa 1890 in date and bearing the Staniforth's Patent mark as well as the registration number 3549.
It has a beautifully shaped body sitting in a cast frame with remarkably chased branch supports and the original interior features elegant hand-pierced dividers.
It opens out into two halves and is held shut by gorgeous laurel wreath loose ring handles at the top.
This wonderful container could house anything from sweets to biscuits or trinkets.
Whatever you choose to store in this lovely item you are sure to do it in style.

Fenton Brothers Ltd
Sheffield
Firm established in 1875 at South Moor Works, East Street, Sheffield by John Frederick Fenton and Frank Fenton. The firm was converted into a limited liability company in 1896 under the style Fenton Brothers Ltd. In 1935, Fenton Bros was part of a short-lived merger "Silver & Steelcrafts Ltd" that included J.H.Potter & Sons Ltd and James Deakin & Sons. The combine collapsed within three years.

The company was founded in Sheffield in 1865 by James Deakin. Their trademark was James Deakin & Co., and in 1871 he worked with his three sons, William, John, and Albert, to change the firm's name to Deakin James & Sons. In 1888, the company opened offices and stores in London, as well as branches in Glasgow and Belfast. In 1897, it changed its name again to James Deakin & Sons Ltd. It closed in 1936.
