English Sussex Slipware Redware Pottery Lidded Cup with Verse, 1819
About the Item
A rare antique English Sussex slipware redware pottery twin handled cup with a twin handled cover with decorative raised and pierced rim and decorated with an incised floral design dated 1819. The cup is of cylindrical shape, finely potted with handles applied either side, the body decorated in a yellow slip with a name reading BENJAMIN BUSS. COTTENDEN. 1819 set within a decorative surround to one side and with verse reading 'How pleasant to be, With a true-hearted friend, Whose affections are free, When Pastime he spends.'. The cup and cover are not otherwise marked and is offered in good condition.
