Pair of Chinese Porcelain Imari Plates

About the Item

Pair of Chinese porcelain Imari plates for export. Imari decoration, in cobalt blue, rouge de fer and gold, depicting a garden view in the center, Qing Dynasty, Quianlong Period (1736-1795). This pair of porcelain plates displays refined artistry, characteristic of the oriental porcelain tradition. The decoration is meticulously hand-painted, using traditional colors, cobalt blue, reddish orange and touches of gold. Typical color combination of Imari porcelain, a Japanese style largely influenced by Chinese export porcelain. The design of the plates features a central scene with a delicately painted garden, featuring flowering branches and a structure reminiscent of a gate or fence, recurring elements in oriental art to symbolize harmony and balance with nature. The vegetation, composed of thin branches and elongated leaves, is decorated with small red and blue flowers, suggesting a serene spring scene. The rim of the plates is richly ornamented with a repetitive pattern of flowers and arabesques, distributed symmetrically along the contour. Small gold details seem to accentuate the sophistication of the piece, creating a refined visual effect. The symmetry and continuity of the pattern indicate that these plates were designed as a harmonious set, reinforcing their importance both decoratively and functionally. During the 17th and 18th centuries, porcelains such as these were highly valued in Europe, especially by collectors and aristocrats, due to their beauty and exceptional quality. Many of these pieces were imported through the Dutch East India Company and were part of large noble collections. The pair of plates, with their elegant decoration and traditional symbolism, represents not only a testament to the cultural exchange between East and West, but also an artistic expression that spans centuries, preserving the essence of the classical aesthetics of oriental porcelain. These are pieces that carry history, sophistication and a legacy of ancestral techniques that continue to fascinate admirers and collectors to this day. Defects.
