Pair of 19th Century Sponge-Ware Platters

About the Item

This pair of sponge-ware platters were acquired from an estate in Pennsylvania and date to the late 1800's. Both platters show rounded edges with applied sponge patterning in classic cobalt blue. The sponge application was applied to bisque-fired pottery and then glaze dipped and re-fired resulting in a strong and durable finish. Both pieces are without chips, cracks or crazing. The sizes are: 13.5 X 9.5 and 13.5 X 10.
