About the Item
Gilt and painted neoclassical French Empire bird plate. Large old Paris Porcelain circular serving dish with hand painted gilt foliate scrolled border with wide bands centering a pair of birds on a tree limb; featuring a South American toucan from Brazil and a North American blue jay. Hand painted identification on the back of plate, with re-gilding to foliate rim banding at one o'clock. Please see photo. An elegant avian plate. France, early 1800s.
