This is a pair of antique ornamental ewers. An Italian, bronze Grand Tour decorative pourer with classical taste, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850. Striking classical taste, with exceptional relief and mask detailing Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good original order Quality bronze presents polished golden tones to great effect Socles crafted from black marble, polished to a semi-gloss sheen Superb weight in the hand of 2.646kg and 2.53kg respectively - 5.83 lb & 5.57 lb Handles in the form of fascinating cameo portraits with a Greek or Roman appearance Decorative faux spout hosts a foreboding fawn mask, with prominent beard and features Arrow detail adorns the collar, widening to the main bulb form Full relief scene in the Bacchanalian manner, with multiple figures in various poses Quartet of fierce leopard heads sit prominently upon the upright Each leopard resides above distinctive a leg and paw motif Wide circular foot terminates with the aforementioned socle Dressed to the base with suede leather protective cushion pads This is a beguiling pair of antique ornamental ewers, graced with a bounty of quality relief decor and feeling substantial in the hand.
