Vintage Elizabeth II Set of Six Sterling Silver Menu Holders

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive set of six vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver and wood menu holders with military interest; an addition to our dining silverware collection. These exceptional vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver menu holders have a rectangular form. The holders are individually embellished with an applied, hallmarked solid silver circular holder surmounting a plain rectangular silver plateau. The plateaus are further ornamented with a cast hallmarked sterling silver models of regimental officers in formal attire. Each model is fitted to the original and impressive mahogany wood base, securing to the underside with a screw fitment. These London silver menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside The cast models were crafted in 1974 by Herbert & Lawrence Parsons of Tessiers Ltd and the holders were crafted by the same company in 1987. Condition These vintage silver menu card holders are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each holder and model are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of vintage silverware. Dimensions Length 11.4 cm / 4.5". Width 7 cm / 2.8". Height 9.2 cm / 3.6". A magnificent, fine and impressive set of six antique George III English sterling silver meat skewers or letter openers made by Paul Storr, an addition to our diverse flatware collection. These magnificent antique George IV English sterling silver meat skewers or letter openers has a plain tapered form. This exceptional set is comprised of three pairs of meat skewers, each pair graduating in size. Each skewer is ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest below a baron's coronet. The terminal of each skewer is embellished with a chased decorated shell design below a reed decorated circular ring loop finger piece. Sets of six graduated antique silver skewers are difficult to locate, especially those by the renowned and important London silversmith Paul Storr. A fine and impressive set of six antique George V English sterling silver menu / card holders - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune.
