About the Item
Vintage Murano vase in white Pulegoso glass by the Murano designer Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892-1977). Good condition except for a minor repaired chip.

Active as sculptor in Rome at the beginning of 20th century, he comes back to Murano in 1925 to found the "Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Venini and Co." Company, along with the same Paolo Venini and Francesco Zecchin. In this Company he becomes Art Director.
In 1932 he leaves Venini and founds the "Zecchin Martinuzzi" along with Francesco Zecchin.
Between 1951 and 1952 he becomes designed for "Arte Vetro di Alberto Seguso" while between 1953 and 1958 he partners with Cedenese.
Napoleone Martinuzzi is still considered one of the finest Murano glass designers of all times.

Napoleone Martinuzzi
Napoleone Martinuzzi was born on May 31, 1892, in Murano.
Active as a sculptor in Rome at the beginning of the 20th century, Martinuzzi came back to Murano in 1925 to found the Vetri Soffiati Muranese Venini and Company, along with Paolo Venini and Francesco Zecchin. At this company, Martinuzzi was the art director.
In 1932, Martinuzzi left the firm and founded the Zecchin Martinuzzi Vetri Artistici e Mosaici along with Francesco Zecchin. Between 1951 and 1952, he became the designer for Arte Vetro di Alberto Seguso. He is still considered one of the finest Murano glass designers of all time. Martinuzzi died on May 15, 1977, in Venice.

A very rare Murano art glass vase attributed to Napoleone Martinuzzi around 1930. Manufactured by Cappelin in the 1920s or Venini in the 1930s. Thin hand blown malachid (calcedonio) glass with curved handles on each side. Similar to Venini model number 3255. This model was produced in different glass types. The vase is not signed. It was bought from a very famous collection in the 1990s. Reach out for more information on the provenance.

Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892 -1977) was an Italian sculptor and designer who left his mark on Italian glass art in particular. As graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, he worked with Ca' Pesaro artists and exhibited at Ca' Pesaro in 1908. In the 1920s he was appointed as Director of the Murano glass Museum. In 1925 he founded Venini & Co. with Paolo Venini and others, of which he took over the artistic direction. For Venini he created stunning creations in soffiato, opaque and pulegoso glass that received international recognition with many awards. His creations of animals, fruits and succulent plants gained international success too. The Cenedese Glassworks , Seguso Vetro d'Arte and Pauly & Co were his last creative stations.
