Seven Faience Portrait Plates Representing Breton Characters Signed HB Quimper

About the Item

Quimper pottery is named after the French town where it was originally produced, back in c1690. It is a hand painted tin glazed earthenware pottery. The 2 small ceramic plates is of a man and the other 4 small plates is of a woman and the big plate is of a man and a woman dressed in Breton costume of that early 17th-18th century period. However the style of the hand painted back markings date these pieces to mid-20th century - c1943-70. All 6 small plates are signed in the back,- HB "H" for Hubaudière, the factory owner at the time, and "B" for Bousquet, the original founder, and numbered 176. Small Plates Diameter 19.5 cm Big Plate Diameter 27.5 cm.
