Pair Antique Austrian Lobmeyr Etched Glass Wine Liquor Decanters Stoppers 1880

About the Item

A fine pair of antique Bohemian crystal etched glass wine or liquor decanters & stoppers, by Lobmeyr, Austria, circa 1880. A very fine pair of antique etched glass wine or spirit decanters, by the foremost European maker of luxury glass ware from the early part of the 19th century and until the present day. Each decanter with the original stoppers, both the stoppers and bases are finely etched with a scrolling floral design. The decanters are of globular form with an applied handle and raised on an oval flared foot, both decanters having the etched Lobmeyr mark to the underside. Both decanters are in excellent condition, no damage or restoration, they are ready to serve your guests with your favorite wine or liquor. J. & L. Lobmeyr, a glass company known for producing luxury tableware, mirrors, chandeliers, and light fixtures, was founded in 1823 in Vienna, Austria by Joseph Lobmeyr. His sons, Josef and Ludwig, took over the company from their father and embraced the traditional designs and techniques of Bohemian glass working. In 1883 the company produced the first electric chandelier in collaboration with Thomas Edison. Joseph Rath, a nephew of Luwdig Lobmeyr, took over the firm in 1902 and is known for his work with modern designers of the Wiener Werkstätte and Art Deco movement. While the firm remained in Vienna, it had offices in Kamenický Šenov and Karlovy Vary, both located in the present-day Czech Republic. Over its two-hundred-year history, J. & L. Lobmeyr has remained family-owned company, selling luxury glass ware across the globe.
