About the Item

A beautiful on-of-a-kind vase made from Pierre Boncompain, born in 1938 in Valence, France. The vase is signed and numbered and stamped "Sassi - Milici," the Gallery in Vallauris, where it has been bought in 1996-1997. The original visit card from the Gallery of that time is available together. The vase is speckled with smaller and bigger dots in blue and golden color on clear ground. (Also internally.) On top it shows three women in black color and a snake (on the handle), who seem to be women of the Greek mythology. The paintings are decorated with shiny golden details. All-over a transparent clear glaze. The vase is in excellent condition. Born in Valence in 1938, Pierre Boncompain graduated first in his class at the E´cole nationale supe´rieure des Arts De´coratifs in Paris and received the General Council of Dro^me Prize. After that he studied in the studio of Raymond Legueult at the E´cole nationale des Beaux Arts. Pierre Boncompain's work is evocative of the environment and lifestyle of the South of France. He creates most of his work in his studio in Paris with extended summers in Provence. Exhibitions of Pierre Boncompain's works of art have been held in museums throughout the world, including Muse´e de Lille; Kajikawa Foundation, Kyoto; Bibliothe`que Nationale, Paris; Takashimaya Museum, Osaka; Singer Foundation, Holland; Navio Museum, Kyoto; Ambrosiano Library, Milan; and one-man retrospective exhibitions at the Shanghai Art Museum, China and the Muse´e de Valence, France. Boncompain's works can also be found in public and private collections globally including the Centre Pompidou, Muse´e d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Mellon Collection, the Navio Museum, Japan, and the Dumesnil Collection, Dallas.
