Rare Reticulated Antique Italian Nove Faience Rococo Flower Garland Centerpiece
About the Item
Large, rare Italian reticulated, hand painted Rococo style floral motif centerpiece by the Nove factory. Designed as an oval reticulated footed basket with masses of hand sculpted flowers trained through the openings and a handsome bouquet of roses, tulips, gerbera daisies and wild flowers hand painted in the interior center. Delicate pink, ochre yellow, puce, lavender, plum, verdant green and periwinkle blue color scheme. This marvelous centerpiece is a delight which will transport you to the sun-filled days in the gardens of Italy. Complex, ornate form with elaborate details, exquisitely pained. Minor losses to flower petals, scrolls, leaves and the like don't detract from the beauty and impact of this fabulous piece. The reticulated body and scrolled base are in excellent condition. This centerpiece would have required a highly skilled team of artists to produce and constituted an ambitious undertaking in the factory's production.
Signed on the base P. D. Nove with the Sun emblem
The Nove factory was established near Bassano in Northern Italy in 1727. The fine ceramic wares produced at Nove have made their way to world class museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
