Antique French Black Forest Tantalus Liquor Box Glass Decanter Cavé à Liqueur.
Create an elegant bar area with this outstanding carved Black Forest tantalus or “cavé à liqueur”, direct from France, c1880. The motif on the case carvings is faux bois (carvings that emulate wood branches and planks), with the front having dimensional Black Forest carved foliage around the beveled glass. The faux bois carvings continue throughout the sides and top, around all five of the original beveled glass insets.
The carved hinged top opens upward to reveal the FULL SERVICE SET of 16 etched glass cordials and 4 etched decanters with stoppers!! The set rests within the original removeable carrier having a wood base and two tier silver metal caddy.
Superb craftsmanship, circa late 1800s. Please note these antique Black Forest liquor boxes are exceedingly difficult to find, particularly with original carrier, decanters and cordials; just imagine the addition this tantalus would make to any entertainment area!
Measurements: 11.5” ht. x 16.75” x 12.75”. Inside case, approx. 9” ht. x 12.25” x 8.5”. 16 cordials, approx. 2.75” ht. 4 decanters with stoppers, approx. 8” ht.
