Luce Raggi, TaoBao (online shopping), 2017 glazed porcelain 55 x 35 cm
Hand painted vase depicting packages and prices related to online shopping on Taobao, the Chinese Amazon. On Taobao you can find everything from houses to exotic fruits, from makeup to toilet paper, from
live to stuffed animals and so on. Part of a series of vases inspired by Chinese culture made by the artist during an artist residency in Jingdezhen, China.
Luce Raggi's work is founded upon the assimilation of her everyday experiences be them ordinary or extraordinary. To express her concepts she plays with life and irony as an interesting mental game, communicating through images to the audience.
Luce was born in the early 80`s in Faenza, one of the utmost ceramic cities in Italy, and grow up with a black marker pen in her pocket. She moved to Milan where she studied Illustration at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, partaking also in a one-year exchange program at the London College of Communication (LCC) in the Surface Design and Printmaking department, University of the Arts, London.
Luce has since moved in her personal way into the circles of contemporary art with solo and group shows as
well as important art residencies around the world, last ones in Italy but also in China, Japan, South Korea and
USA. She is now based in Faenza, where she recently opened Casa Studio Raggi in front of the MIC International Museum of Ceramic with her studio as well as an independent gallery space for contemporary art.
