Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Vase by Gunnar Nyland for Rorstrand Company
About the Item
This elegant and sophisticated Mid-Century Modern vase was realized by the esteemed designer Gunnar Nyland for Rorstrand- arguably the most prestigious Scandinavian ceramics atelier of the period in Sweden circa 1950. It features a smoked emerald (nearly midnight green) body with chartreuse accents at the neck and mouth (and also lining the interior). The piece offers a cylindrical body with a sloped collar and a subtly flared circular mouth. The neck of the piece is imprinted with stylized and abstracted curvilinear floral patterns. This motifs recurs throughout, as the surface of the body is decorated with six rows of circles (as well as one on top and bottom) separated by a straight line. The pattern appears both geometric and botanical, Mid Century and utterly contemporary (a hallmark of great design). Its beautiful color palate and clean modernist lines make this piece well suited for any interior regardless of the style of decor. It is in excellent vintage condition. It is signed Rorstrand with the maker's proprietary mark.
