In 1839, Barbedienne founded the Maison where he copied most of the statues owned by european museums in bronze. Subjects chosen were often allegoric and extracted from Antiquity. the Venus de Milo is one of the first example. Henry Cahieux (1825-1854) was the chief decorator of the Maison Barbedienne. Many works were executed in the neo-greek and neo-pompeian style. Barbedienne and this genius ornementalist collaborated until 1854 when Cahieux died from cholera while he was still in the prime of life. He was succeeded by ornementalist Louis Constant Sévin. Many lamps designed by Henry Cahieux and exhibited on Barbedienne's stand at the 1855 Paris World Fair won the medal of honor.
