Fine Pair of Sevres Gilt Bronze-Mounted Painted, Parcel-Gilt Porcelain Vases

About the Item

Fine pair of 'Sèvres' gilt bronze-mounted painted and parcel gilt porcelain covered vases late 19th century, Paris, the painting by Poitevin, the baluster sky blue and cobalt ground vessels painted in the Art Nouveau taste; with fluted necks above tapered bodies, each depicting a maiden, representing Spring and Autumn, she wears a floral garland and gathers flowers in a seasonal garden, a putto assists by her side, further decorated with flanking gilt floral sprays of a different species, the reverse painted with foliate trophies incorporating a spilt jug and wine cask; the sides with applied gilt bronze flower-filled cornucopia handles, raised on a fluted gilt decorated base, above a bronze support cast with neoclassical motifs, each signed Poitevin on a leaf to the right of each figure, the removable lids with interlaced 'L' s enclosing an N, above an S. Measures: Height 32 in., Width (across handles) 12 1/2 in. Condition report Excellent condition, exceptional painting, heavy and clean tilting, slight glaze all-over even crackle,, the undersides fitted with plates concealing the underside of the porcelain bases.
