A fine and early art nouveau acid etched glass vase with pansies by Legras & Cie

About the Item

A fine and early art nouveau acid etched glass vase with pansies by Legras & Cie. Made in Saint Denis near Paris in ca. 1895. The piece is a very nice example of the times when Legras and Cie. still satisfied their clients with sophisticated craftsmanship. The vase is made out of clear glass, with a partial rose underlay and another clear overlay, mold blown to give it the optical effect of a cylindrical vessel with a ribbed pattern in the interior (See the third picture). After acid etching the base layer got that frosted icy look and the clear overlay was etched to a decor of pansie blossoms, leaves and branches and refined with a sharp enamel painting of these flowers on top. The piece is marked with a little golden L. under the base.
