About the Item

Ercole Barovier shell shaped centerpiece of the series Grosse costolature. Barovier & Toso, Murano, 1940s. Since the 1920s he has participated in national and international events relating to glass and furnishings. Throughout his career he received prizes and awards: the Venice Biennale, the Monza Triennale (1930) and Milan (1933 and 1954), the Paris Universal Exhibition (1937) and the Compasso d'oro (1956). His works are exhibited in personal retrospectives at the Angelicum in Milan (1951), at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York (1959), in Murano (1975) and at the Venice Biennale (1976). In fifty years of activity, Barovier significantly influenced the renewal of Murano glass art, inventing numerous techniques related to the processing and decoration of the glass fabric. His production is distinguished by the quality of the colors and the uniqueness of the materials used.
