Pair of Swedish Grace Josef Ekberg Lustre Lidded Vases, Gustavberg 1927

About the Item

A very unusual pair of lidded urns by Swedish designer Josef Ekberg. Signed with Josef Ekberg's monogram and Gustavsbergs company mark and also dated 1927. Handpainted creamware with luster glaze and gold decorations. Really good condition, with no issues! JOSEF EKBERG He started working as a 12-year-old boy at the Gustavsberg factory in 1898. He continued working there till his death in 1945. In 1908 Joseph Ekberg became the lead artist and decorator at Gustavsberg. He hold this position until 1917 when Wilhelm Kåge replaced him in this position. During this period he was a big name in Sweden and he still is. His reputation has begun to grow more and more internationally. Josef was the one who invented the "sgraffito" technique.
