Rustic Elm Wooden Large Mortar Bowl Hand Carved from One Piece of Tree Trunk
About the Item
A very characterful late 19th century hand carved large wooden Chinese Elm mortar or bowl used for pounding grain. Oversized and wonderful, decorative piece that would look incredible juxtaposed on a contemporary table, sideboard, console table or used in a conservatory, kitchen or orangerie. The bowl has been hollowed out to a depth of 22.5cm and weighs 14kg. An amazing decorative piece in it’s own right or one could easily insert a garden pot within the hole if needing to use for plants, or a candle in its own protective glass vessel would also look wonderful with light dancing over the years worn textures.
