Natural Ammonite Death Bed Specimen

About the Item

A natural ammonite death bed mounted on a wooden and steel stand, originating from Schlaifhausen near Forchheim, Germany. Once a living creature, this ammonite has developed its array of shaped fossils over millions of years of compression, transforming into a striking piece. It would certainly make a stunning new display or decorative piece for any home, or collectors cabinet. More on Ammonite/s This is a rare, spectacular and large specimen of ammonites on matrix dactylioceras athleticum. Due to their familiar spiral shape shell, ammonites are one of the most recognisable fossils. They are marine animal fossils from the Jurassic period between 240 and 65 million years ago. These molluscs are more closely related to octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish. The fossils wash out of the cliffs and can be found mixed in the gravels of the beach. Several species of minerals contributed to the fossilisation of the animals including pyrite. Ammonite/s, which have variable features including crystalline, sediment or calcified segments.
