Cast Bronze Figure by Georges Oudot “Femme Debout Au Drape"
About the Item
this work by famed Sculpture and Painter Georges Oudot was cast circa 1955 and bears his signature and the mark EA indicating its an artist proof, the foundry stamp of Susse Fondeur Paris. Entitled “Femme Debout au Drape” the work is dynamic and powerful as are almost all of the artist's figural works in bronze. The figure is cast and retains its original patina in a dark black-green. The artist's hand and the textural nature of his work are clearly evident in this piece. He was born in France in 1928 in Chaumont in the Haute-Mare. He attended the Besancon School of Fine Arts then in 1946 joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and studied under such artists as Marcel Gimond and Alfred Jannot. Throughout his career, he was awarded many major medals from the French salons and government bodies. His works are in over 20 important museum collections and countless major private collections the world over. Of note as well is his foundry of choice the Susse works, this company begun in 1758 is the oldest foundry still working in Paris and has been instrumental throughout its time as a leader in the art of casting bronze. During the reign of Napoleon III the workshop was associated with the grand ideals put forth through the promotion of French arts and in particular sculpture. The firm was called the Ambassadors of the French Decorative Arts and continued to work with the finest sculptures of the day. Of particular note is that the company had a major resurgence of importance after the second world war based on relationships with artists like Oudot. In the firm's achieved photos this work is shown in a number of photos being finished. The foundry also worked closely in the casting for the Musee Rodin the great works of “The Burghers of Calais, Balzac, and The Bronze Age”.Condition Disclosure:

19th Century Chinese Bronze Dancing Figure
Located in Hudson, NY
The charming figure done completely in the lost wax method is in a primitive naive style. The male figure is dancing excitedly on a rocky outcrop. His costume of a loose-fitting coat with long flared sleeves flying in space as he dances reveals his large potbelly while his loose-fitting shift girdled at the waist with a large belt flips up to show his legs and bare feet as he dances. The figure is suspended on one leg as he moves and his face is animated and happy. The head is cast separately so that his wild hair and beard are free from the body castings...
