Christope This hand-carved wooden bust of Henri Christophe, attributed to Ulysse Dabouze (Haitian, 19th century), is a rare and historically significant piece of Haitian art and heritage. Inscribed "H. Christophe," the sculpture depicts Henri Christophe (1767–1820), a key leader of the Haitian Revolution and later the self-declared King of Haiti (1811–1820). Known for his military prowess and contributions to Haiti’s independence, Christophe played a vital role in establishing the first Black republic in the Western Hemisphere.Expertly carved, this 13.5-inch-high bust showcases fine detailing in the facial expression, military uniform, and bicorn hat, reflecting the influence of Haitian folk artistry and 19th-century neoclassical portraiture.
