Alabaster and Marble Bust of Saint Clare of Assisi

About the Item

This is an alabaster and marble bust of Saint Clare of Assisi. It depicts a young lady head/face covered with a cloak. She is looking down, very peacefully while she appears to be praying to God. There is a branch of olive that are adorning her front upper chest that is covered with her clothing. The bust is attached to a marble octagonal base. An olive branch was given to her at the age of seventeen on Palm Sunday by the bishop before she left her father’s house to follow Saint Francis and become a Benedictine nun. The olive branch symbolizes the welcome of God to her new life and the letting go of her past.
