Mixed-Media Sculpture Dror Karta
By Dror Karta
Located in Palm Springs, CA
A wonderful mixed-media sculpture by the noted Israeli Artist Dror Karta. This sculpture was in a traveling exhibition and is pictured in the book. The exhibition was about Palestinian and Israeli artists, who were given the same bowl to start. This is the actual piece. It is signed as well. It is a ceramic bowl, four glass leaves and lots of little bottles inside loose. The glass leaves are molded into the ceramic base by some kind of white epoxy. The leaves have been repaired at the base with the epoxy and quite a few of the little bottles have damage. There is a small chip on the underside. A brief Bio of the artist follows from the artist's website follows; Biography 1965 Born in Natanya, Israel 1985 Wounded during military service 1988-1992 Study graphic design in "Hadasa-vizo Canada college of design" Haifa, Israel 1994 Opens studio for painting, sculpturing and designing 1998 Moves to Ein-Hod Artist Village, Israel 2001-2003 Lives and works in Amsterdam, NL Group exhibitions 1998 "Shesh-Besh", Pyramid contemporary art gallery, Haifa, Israel 1998 "60 Horse Power", holiday of holidays art...

A wonderful bronze abstract in the form of a female nude mounted on a terrazzo base. It is by the noted Mexican artist Jonas Gutierrez Castillo. It is signed Jonas 99 PA near the base. PA stands for Pruebas de Artista or Artist's Proof. The bronze has a beautiful warm brown gold patina. The base is a heavy terrazzo with lots of inclusions. The base has some losses to the edges which are pictured in detail. The bronze has some patina inclusions or spots, pictured as well. One of the artist's more notable works is a massive bronze title the The Stone Eater on Puerto Vallarta's Malecon. We've attached a biography of the artist courtesy of Galleria Dante of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico below: Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco in 1966. The artist began to sculpt at an early age. In 1980, he helped create the monumental public sculpture "La Estampida", which is located at a busy intersection in his hometown, near the emblematic building of the Hotel Riu. Pair of Capistrano Mexican Folk Art Sculptures Attributed to Gemma Taccogna
Located in Pasadena, CA
Capistrano Gemma Taccogna, a Mexican artist of Italian descent, left a distinctive mark in folk art with her mastery of papier-mâché for the small one, and of ceramic for the big one, which she transformed into an illusion of porcelain. Her style is immediately recognizable: faces with clean features, large, stylized eyes outlined in black, and a playful approach to form. These two vases, attributed to Taccogna, evoke Russian dolls known as Matryoshkas, due to the way the faces are painted, associated with the archetype of the mother of a large family, a symbol of motherhood and fertility. The larger one, a mix of ceramics and papier-mâché, and the smaller one, entirely made of papier-mâché, share this common aesthetic, reinforced by generous, solid shapes. Their gazes seem to observe without truly concentrating, as if absorbed in a distant thought. This lack of focus gives them a presence that is both peaceful and enigmatic, suspended between wakefulness and dream. The relief necklaces, applied with a deliberately naïve touch, add a sculptural dimension to the whole. The matte, textured material contrasts with the porcelain-like visual effect. One of the vases is signed "Bunny Price" and dated 1964, while the other remains anonymous. However, their attribution is unquestionable. Presented together, these vases belong to the movement of the Mexican craft...
