Antique Swiss Black Forest bookends, larger and better carved than average. Finding antique Black Forest works of art always feels like a blessing. Especially when they involve bear sculptures, because they have always been the most sought after. This decorative bookstand with sliding and folding bear bookends is in excellent condition. And what makes this antique extra special is that the larger than average bears are actually sitting on books and they are reading books as well. This near mint, Swiss antique also is more special, because it is entirely hand carved out of the more beautiful and more expensive nutwood. And over the many decades this striking nutwood has also grown a marvelous patina. There is one old and professional restauration / re-inforcement at the underside (see images 18 & 19), but on top this antique stand could hardly be in better condition.
