Bronze Cheval De Marly in the Style of Guillaume Coustou, circa 1930

About the Item

Bronze statue in the style of Guillaume Marly. The horses of Marly were commissioned by Louis XV to sculptor Guillaume Coustou to decorate the entrance of the park of Marly castle. In 1794, the marble statues of Carrara were transferred to Place de la Concorde in Paris where a replica is still visible. The original statues are kept in the Louvre. These statues have inspired many sculptors and there are many reproductions. This representation is in brown bronze with a golden patina. As on the original statues, the emotions of the horse and his groom are beautifully represented. Good condition. Shipping: D21 H28 1,4 Kg.

Fabulous antique replica spelter detailed sculptures of the Marly rearing horse and groom original stone sculptures by Guillaume Coustou. These replica sculptures were extremely popular in the Victorian era and were done by many artists. This pair is in wonderful antique condition with no outstanding flaws we have detected. This lovely pair of antique Victorian highly detailed sculptures of the famed Marly rearing horse and groom sculptures are after the stone originals by Guillaume Coustou and will look amazing on your mantle, or wherever you decide. These small replica sculptures were done by many different artists in the late 19th century and were all the rage. Most were never signed but show the original signature of Coustou on the base, as do these.
