21st century abstract sculpture INASIS by Renzo Buttazzo from Italy Sculpture in Lecce Stone Delivered with a certificate of authenticity (dated & signed) Contact us on 1stDibs to acquire a different size than the one shown here (80x17x12 cm 31,50''x6,70''x4,73'' in). Since 1886 Renzo Buttazzo work with Pietra Leccese (limestone from Lecce), and during this time he combined the traditions and craftsmanship of hand carving with new and experimental techniques to create an unmistakable style. Through his work he hopes to make the unseen visible, turning an abstract idea into a physical object. The pieces he creates express the contradictions of life, the rational and the mysterious, the finite and the infinite, the positive and the negative. The unique qualities of the Lecce stone combined with his treatment of it transform it from heavy and rigid into works that are light, soft and fluid. In his creations he juxtapose mass with void, contrast fullness with emptiness, and this – together with the very distinctive marks of the hand held tools – are the very essence of his work. His creations are always produced in a limited series and can also be tailored to suit clients specific wants and needs. He produces a very wide range of products; sculptures, furniture, lamps, sculpted walls, which have appeared in international magazines, TV programs and art collections, and he regularly collaborate with architects, art dealers and interior designers to In produce site specific works for their projects. In 2001, the President of the Italian Republic appointed him Chevalier in the National Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for his work and for having reinvented the way of working with Lecce stone, other than in baroque monuments.
