About the Item

Mantel clock 19th century Louis Philippe Charles X period ormolu pendulum with malachite plinth. This stunning clock is surmounted by a gilded bronze figure of a Greek god – Apollo playing on a lyre, seated on the malachite square clock case draped with himation, a type of clothing worn in by ancient Greek men and woman. Apollo has been recognized as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the sun and light, poetry, and more. The dial of the clock has Roman numerals for hours and is surrounded by a gilt laurel wreath. Smaller elements that adorn the plinth such as: the music sheet, book, lyre and laurel wreath are all gilded and correlates to Apollo. The mid-section of the plinth is also adorned with gild bronze cornice in anthemion motif. Moreover, the feet of the clock are made with acanthus s-scroll design, which completes this Second Empire style pendulum. The clock is in excellent and perfect working condition. In addition, it has been cleaned and maintained by a professional watchmaker specializing in museum maintenance. The eight-days going movement. It strikes the every, half hour and hour on it’s bell.
