Gilt Bronze & Alabaster Gothic Revival Mantel Clock with Crusade Theme Sculpture
About the Item
Cathedral design, sculptural gilt bronze and zinc clock.
This sizable, handcrafted, impressive and meaningful clock comes with a variety of Gothic church elements. As a matter of fact, the bottom half of this mantle clock very much resembles the entrance of a church or cathedral. Behind the stunning gilt bronze balustrade you can see the alabaster inside the Gothic church-window motifs. Other wonderful elements are the small towers and the scrolling elements and ofcourse also the enameled dial face in the middle; very much like the large clock on church towers. The variety of materials makes this striking clock (no pun intended) an impressive antique to look at, but the deeper meaning makes it even more interesting. We believe that this clock is all about the crusades in medieval times. The male figure on top of this rare clock is very likely a Mediterranean warrior who went to war with the objective of recovering the Holy Land from Islamic rule. Especially with the gilt bronze Islamic or eastern sword, shield and hatwear spread out in front of him, this crusade warrior looks to be the victor in this battle. Standing on top of this cathedral-like gilt bronze pendant, it looks like he is portrayed as the patron/protector of Christianity. In image 14 you can see that in his right hand the blade of his sword went missing in the proces. This meaningful antique ticks all the boxes and we are proud to be able to offer it to you in such a fine and good working condition. This work of beauty comes with the original key for winding the perfect working 8 day clock and striking mechanism.
This Gothic clock too is great value for money. Especially since our price includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days.
